Radio 1 Xtra host Charlie Sloth has announced his departure from the station after a decade of service. Sloth, who accepted his fourth consecutive Radio DJ of the Year award at last month’s GRM Rated Awards, said he would leave his post ‘as a man’ after ‘the best 10 years of his life’. Though he’s simultaneously hinted that the best is yet to come, after warning fellow DJs that he was stepping into ‘fourth gear’ in 2018. ‘Ten of the best years of my life,’ Sloth said as his announcement was made on Wednesday night. ‘I want to say a huge thank you to everybody who has listened to me over the years and supported me in everything I have done, I love you, and the journey continues.” He emotionally added: ‘I joined the BBC as a boy and I leave as a man.’ The DJ’s last show for ‘The 8th‘ will be on Thursday November 1, followed by the final Rap Show on Saturday November 3. Radio 1 thanked the music enthusiast in a statement that confirmed Charlie was ‘stepping away from the mic’. ‘We would like to thank Charlie for bringing all the music, chat, and laughs to the 8th floor,’ the station said. Charlie gave himself credit for the success stories of ‘most artists’ at the GRM Rated Awards last month.
