Erick Morillo / Madonna / Cream Birmingham - Welovedjs..net - News Reviews And Everything About Your Disc Jockey
Mon. May 20th, 2024

One Dj that gets us excited and ready to rock, is non other than Erick Morillo.  WeHave featured the Columbian superstar before in our DJ Profile pages and now it seems like the legend is about to explode back into the limelight.  With recent remixes for Gorgon City and Jennifer Hudson as well as collaborations with Harry Romero on ‘Devotion’ and ‘Let The Freak Out’, Morillo is once again carving a slice of the music industry for himself.  And quite rightly so, the man can literally do no wrong.

It would appear that Erick has all corners of the musical establishment ready and knocking at his door.  It is no secret that here at WeLoveDJs heights, we have some ‘guilty pleasures’….YES; and not what you are thinking.. filth.

If anybody was looking for a solid, substantial, cemented and downright authentic accolade to ones abilities, you’d do no better than receiving a call from Her Madgesty.  When Madonna calls: YOU ANSWER.  Now.  And She did.  And he Did.

Madonna, has and will continue to push the boundaries in music.  Love or loathe her, she will forever be remembered as the woman who made the KKK’s burning cross effergy into a ‘pop’ icon with ‘Like A Prayer’ and remains the only performer threatened with arrest and imprisonment, as a result of a musical performance,  for her ‘Like A Virgin’ stage antics, during her Blond Ambition tour.

The Material Girl has called upon Morillo to remix her new track ‘Living For Love’.  Now, I am aware that this post is about Erick Morillo, however, I have to add that this return to pop music is an absolute breath of fresh air for Madonna fans.  We will all choose to ignore the last few years, of utter tripe that have been delivered by the material girl.  All is forgiven Madge xxx

What Morillo has done with ‘Living For Love’, is give the track a completely different perspective.  The track begins and by 0:03 seconds, you already see the influence the Columbian master has had on this ‘sure-fire’ pop record.  The track builds and percussion and bass are layered on to create an almost acid-house effect.  Madonna’s vocals penetrate the warped synths and punchy base to accumulate in a drop towards the end, that Tenaglia wouldn’t be shy of delivering on the turntables at Output. Morillo takes this pop track on a journey through electro, pop, via bass to tribal, it’s amazing. WeLoveIt. (skip to 3:30- and listen to the last part…oooooossshhhhhhh….ohyesohyes!!!!!!)

That’s not all for Morillo!!!  This week, he has been announced as the Number 1, #1, to perform at the hallowed wheels of steel for Radio 1’s ‘Essential Mix’.  Morillo will be the first DJ to perform a 2 hour set for the ‘Masters Series’!  Check his set out on February 14th!!!  www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/essentialmix
